Library Persistent Links

Off-campus access to subscription databases requires authentication through a proxy. Simply copying the URL from the address bar may not work for your students. You will need to use a proxied persistent link that will ask students to log in if they're off-campus. To generate persistent links to articles, eBooks, and streaming videos, use our Persistent Links Guide.

IMPORTANT! If you insert proxied persistent links in D2L via the Insert Quicklink button, they will NOT work. Use the Insert Stuff button instead. For step-by-step instructions, watch the short video below.

 

Copyright & Fair Use

  Permissible Amount
Books
  • Link to full text when available.
  • Copy 10% or 1,000 words of entire text.
Articles
  • Link to full text through the Library.
  • Copy 10% or 1,000 words of entire text.
Audio
  • Link to or stream online audio when available.
  • Limit replication of song lyrics, sheet music, music and video to 10% or 30 seconds.
Video
  • Link to streaming online video when available. Check the Library’s streaming video collection.
  • Use 3 minutes or 10% of total work, whichever is less.

Films On Demand Videos

You can embed Films On Demand videos in D2L via the Insert Stuff button. For step-by-step instructions, watch this short video:

DIY Captioning

The 30-min. webinar recording below is from November 2017. It covers captioning videos privately in YouTube and then exporting the captions that you can then load into your video platform, such as D2L Capture Central. The webinar covers multiple methods, so if you're primarily interested in editing YouTube's automatic captions, skip ahead to minute 17:30.
