Benchmark Essay #1

I based my assessment ratings (below) on students’ performance on the benchmark essay #1 on the Rule (guidelines below).

Panel Discussion on Benedictine Hallmarks

The other course assignment that students confirmed helped in their understanding of the Rule was the Panel Discussion on Benedictine Hallmarks. I have attached a sample student presentation.

Discussion questions for consideration:

  1. Is The Rule applicable to living in the 21st century? Can it serve a purpose to those who are not Roman Catholic? Explain why or why not. (Chapter 1)
  2. Chapter 5 addresses guidelines for effective organizations. He describes Harmony (Obedience), Stability, and Teamwork (needed for community). Consider your work setting. Obedience, Stability, and Community are three of the Benedictine Hallmarks. Give an example of how effectively each of these Hallmarks is achieved in your work setting. (If you are not employed outside the home, discuss any organization of which you are a member whether family, church, book club, school group.)
  3. Reflect on Chapter 36 The Sick Brothers and Chapter 37 The Elderly and Children. What is the relevance of these Rules to today's health care system?
