Doctrine of Discovery: 2022 Conversatio

Fall semester, the Center for Benedictine Values presents a Conversatio series exploring the Doctrine of Discovery, the cluster of papal proclamations from the 15th century that fueled European Christian conquest of Native American lands, cultures, and peoples. Numerous churches and denominations have renounced the Doctrine. Indigenous leaders are calling on Pope Francis to rescind the teaching.

Learn about the Doctrine of Discovery and its destructive legacy as we host prominent Indigenous writers, scholars, and activists on three Friday afternoons this semester: September 23, October 7, and November 4—all at 3:15-4:30 pm CT.
