Dr. Autumn Alcott Ridenour

Mesa, Ariz. ~ Autumn Alcott Ridenour, Ph.D., assistant professor of Religious and Theological Studies at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., will lecture at Benedictine University at Mesa and Xavier College Preparatory in Phoenix as part of Benedictine's "Visiting Scholar in Catholic Thought Lecture Series."

Ridenour will present "Aging as Vocation: Virtues Through an Augustinian Lens," at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, at Xavier College Preparatory, 4710 N. 5th St., in Phoenix, and at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, in the Community Room of Gillett Hall, located at 225 E. Main St. in downtown Mesa, Ariz.

Ridenour's primary interests are in the areas of theological, philosophical and social ethics, with attention to history and systematic theology. She earned a Ph.D. in Theological Ethics at Boston College, defending her dissertation titled "Union with Christ for the Aging: A Consideration of Aging and Death in the Theology of St. Augustine and Karl Barth."

Ridenour's research includes the theologies of St. Augustine, Karl Barth, Christology, virtue, medical and bioethics, political ethics, and aging.

The lectures are sponsored by the Center for Mission and Identity (CMI) and the Department of Theology at Benedictine University, in partnership with Americare Catholic Hospice and Xavier College Preparatory School.

CMI supports the ongoing development of Catholic social teaching and the Catholic intellectual tradition at the Mesa branch campus. CMI works to communicate a common mission, to provide programming that supports the University's Catholic identity and Benedictine heritage, and maintains that tradition while nurturing a culture of lifelong learning, responsible leadership, social engagement, and religious and cultural dialogue within the entire University community.

Teachers, lay ministers and deacons who attend this lecture are eligible for 1 credit toward recertification in the Diocese of Phoenix.
