When we say Literature it means Scientific Literature based on the scientific method and is a record of developments in Science recorded over centuries in the journal literature. The scientific method as defined by the Oxford dictionary is:
"a method of procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses".
