Dr. Vinkler read the books listed below with students in HNRS 190 (roughly the equivalent of WRIT 101). The theme for the course was "lives on the margin," and I used these texts to address marginality from community because they reflect how people can be marginalized due to gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or political views, either by others in their own society, as "other" in a foreign society, or due to colonization and change of their society.
