Faith & Justice 2020: July 8 & 22

The 3rd annual Faith & Justice Summer Reading Group

This reading and discussion program is the result of a partnership between Campus Ministry, Intercultural Education, the Bennedictine Library, and the Center for Mission, Ministry, and Inclusion.  It grew out of a desire to continue expanding our knowledge base about faith and social justice issues.  We try to keep the readings short, and the discussion is always lively.  No specialized knowledge is necessary or assumed.

An exploration of 20th and 21st century U.S. Muslim womanhood that explores how U.S. Muslim women's identities are expressions of Islam as both Black protest religion and universal faith tradition. Through archival images, cultural texts, popular media, and interviews, the author maps how communities of American Islam became sites of safety, support, spirituality, and social activism, and how women of color were central to their formation.
