International Studies Research Guide: Education Abroad

Connecting to Library Resources

Almost all of the library's online resources are available to you during your Education Abroad experience. This would include:

  • Chat Reference (be sure to allow for the time difference)
  • Research Guides
  • Access to eBooks and eReference resources
  • Films in our streaming video collection
  • Online databases and electronic journals
  • RefWorks and our citation research guides

Just remember to link to resources from library web pages so you'll be recognized as a member of the Benedictine University community and be sure to set your preferences in Google Scholar so you can link to the Benedictine Library resources.

Link Google Scholar to Library Databases

To see links to BenU Library subscription content in your Google Scholar search results:

  1. Go to Google Scholar > Settings > Library Links
  2. Search "Benedictine"
  3. Check the boxes
  4. Click Save and you're done!

Libraries Abroad

Library cultures and access policies differ greatly around the world. Many libraries, including many of the major libraries of Europe have closed stacks (that is, you won't be able to browse the books on the shelves). They can also have very limited hours of operation compared to academic libraries in the United States so you may need to plan your research time carefully. In addition some libraries require a letter of introduction from a librarian just to use the facility. We are happy to provide such letters, just let us know what libraries you wish to access and when you plan to use them.
