Summer Reading for WRIT 101/104 & HNRS 190:: Summer Reading 2016

Introduction

The summer reading is intended to begin your initiation into an academic community where reading is intended to begin your initiation into an academic community where reading, writing, analysis, and discussion build college-level critical thinking skills.  We hope the reading sparks your curiosity, helps you ask and begin to answer improtant questions, and enables you to participate in group discussions when you come to campus.

I Am Malala, by Malala Yousafzai, argues for the rights of women, the right to a basic education, and tolerance and respect for all.  One of Benedictine's hallmarks is "respect for each individual in a community and service to the common good."  Developing moral clarity, building community, and educating and serving others are essential tenants of our institutional identity, and we hope our students come to embody those distinctive Benedictine qualities as well.
